Horse Cookies
1 ¾ mixed sweet feed |
Pre-heat oven to 375°F Combine ingredients into bowl and mix together well. Makes 25 cookies |

Cowboy Cake
| 2 cups sugar |
1 teaspoon nutmeg |

Put the above ingredients, mixed together, on stove, stirring slowly. Let come to boil. Boil 3 minutes. Then add 2 teaspoons soda dissolved in a little warm water. Let mixture cool to luke warm. Then add 4 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 2 cups nutmeats. (Pecans are best.) Pour into baking dish or pan, preferably not too deep. Bake in 375°F oven. Test with toothpick. This cake needs no milk,eggs or even butter, tastes rich, and will serve a group of thirty people easily. |

Ranch-Style Chocolate Cake
¾ cup cocoa |
1 ½ cup milk |

Mix coca,sugar and milk; boil slowly to creamy custard thickness. Cool, and add vanilla |

3 cups cake flour |
| Cream butter; add sugar and cream until light; add well-beaten egg yolks; beat again. Add soda dissolved in water; beat in flour and milk alternately, and then add cool chocolate-custard mixture. Fold in stiffly-beaten egg whites last. Preheat oven to 350°F and then turn down to 325°F when cake is put in. This is a thin batter and consequently must bake longer then most cakes. Bake 55to 60 minutes. (Be sure the oven is not too hot.) If possible, bake in deep angel-cake pan with hole in center. Ice cake with your favorite frosting. | |

Colorado Ranger Cookies
1 cup shortening |
1 teaspoon soda |

Cream shortening and sugar and add eggs. Add (sifted) flour, baking powder, soda, and salt, and work in flake, Krispies, cocoanut and vanilla. Mix thoroughly until mixture makes stiff dough. Mold into small balls and press down on cookie sheet with fork. Bake in 350°F oven till brown (about 15 minutes). These cookies are quite substantial, economical and tasty. They make a great snack to go with a cup of tea or coffee. |
